Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating an American historical figure, Martin Luther King JR (2-15-29- 4-4-68). King was an American Baptist minister, activist, and political philosopher. Martin Luther King JR was one of the most prominent leaders of the Civil Rights movement from 1955 through 1968 when he was assassinated. King advocated non-violent resistance and civil disobedience against Jim Crow laws and other forms of legalized discrimination. King would organize marches and protests to further the cause of the Civil Rights movement such as - right to vote, labor rights, desegregation, etc. One of his most well known marches was the 1963 March on Washington where King delivered his "I have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. This was one of King's most famous speeches. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968. James Earl Ray, a fugitive from Missouri State Penitentiary was convicted of the crime. There are a number of conspiracy theories on King's death with many folks thinking that Ray was a scapegoat. King is one of the most well known Civil Rights figures in American history. This figure was designed mainly for display purposes for the history fan. This would make a nice addition to any collection.
