He started working as an apprentice furniture maker at the age of 9, and moved to Granada at the age of 12 to become an apprentice under Eduardo Ferrer. He then worked in many workshops in Madrid, Barcelona, Cordoba, etc. He studied manufacturing methods in workshops throughout Spain, and finally came to the conclusion that the traditional manufacturing techniques for flamenco and classical guitars were based on the techniques of Antonio Torres, and opened his own shop in Granada in 1952. His son, José Manuel Fernández Enríquez, began working for him in 1987, and took over the workshop when Manuel died in 1997. There are repaired cracks on both sides of the lower bulge of the back plate, and scratches on the back of the neck have been repaired. The tuning pegs have been replaced, and there are scratches and dents on various parts, but there are no problems with use. You can enjoy the bright sound that is typical of Spanish-made instruments.
