Description: Antique mantel clock set or garniture with French 8 day two train movement by Japy Freres circa 1870. The Majolica, earthenware set comprising the clock and two side ornaments or vases. Offered in good working order and pretty good condition. Includes winding key and pendulum. The French, 8 day movement carries the Japy Freres stamp to the back and strikes (from a countwheel) the hours (number of hours) and 1/2 hour (one strike) on a bell. Timekeeping is good. The Majolica garniture looks rather Germanic in style with the tin glaze comprising earthy tones of brown, green and turqoise. The handles of all three elements terminate in dolphins whilst the two vases each carries a mother earth type mask front and back. Overall the condition is pretty good with the most noticeable flaw a chip to the base of one of the vases. Weighs 5.2kg before wrapping. The clock is 8.75" (22.5cm) at the widest point, 5.75" (14.5cm) deep and stands 13.25"(33.5cm) high. The clock bezel 4.75" (12cm) diameter. The vases each stands 11.25" (28.5cm) in height, just over 4"(10cm) deep and with a spread of 6.25" (15.5cm). If the three elements are stood next to one another the total spread is around 22" (56cm). Offered for sale BY AUCTION with NO RESERVE...
