SYMBOLISM Inside the Magic Square is written: Sator arepo tenet opera rotas. Independently from the place of their discovery (Italy, France, Spain, England, Hungary and other European countries) and from the time of their creation (the oldest evidence, found in 1925 in Pompeii, dates back to about two thousand years ago), all Magic Squares have the same text. The words within them create a palindroma phrase, which remains identical read in any verse. Therefore words can be read in the same way either horizontally (first to fifth row) or vertically (first to fifth column), either horizontally from the fifth row to the first (right to left) or vertically (from bottom to top) from the fifth to the first column. After centuries of careful study, attempts at interpretation and argument, there is still no agreement on the meaning of SATOR’s words.
