Description: Madison, WISCONSIN - Hotel Lorraine - ADVERTISING - 1952 - McCarthy Reference: Hotel Loraine, also known as The Loraine, is a ten-story high-rise building located in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. Designed in the Beaux-arts style by architect Herbert W. Tullgren, the hotel was built for Milwaukee hotel and insurance magnate Walter Schroeder and was Madison's leading hotel for many years. After the hotel went out of business, the building housed the state Departments of Justice and Commerce. It was within the last 10 years renovated into condominiums. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. This card offers a highly stylized advertising card of the hotel with the nearby Wisconsin capitol dome included. Interesting the card's message to a resident of the Bronx in New York City includes a political reference of the time to Wisconsin's controversial Senator Joseph McCarthy: "Greetings from the cheese state (McCarthy included). Having a fine time. Will call you on our return. Sadie & Nat." This Photochromatic postcard, mailed in 1952, is in good condition.
