Description: Media mail delivery is sometimes much slower than the estimate. There is nothing I can do about that. I'm offering priority mail as an alternative. It's faster and more reliable, but unfortunately, more expensive. -----------'-------------------------------------------- These 3 volumes are part of a larger set of The World's Great Classics. They are all part of the set which is numbered #914 of 1000, and copyright date for all 3 is 1901. Each volume has a color frontispiece and one or two other illustrations. Despite their age, they are in very good sturdy condition, probably little used due to their very scholarly nature. They do have the usual library markings, but texts are unmarked and clean. Pages are in good condition. Bindings are good. Covers show mild wear from shelving and a few handling smudges. Vol. 1 has an introduction by George Saintsbury and preface by Robert Arnot. It is composed of Memoirs by notable French men and women of past centuries. 448 pages. Vol. 2 has introductions by Andrew Lang and Edward Everett Hale. Contains memoirs by English and American persons of stature. 437 pages, some of which are still uncut. Vol. 3 is composed of Classic Memoirs Volume III and Annals by Goethe. Classic Memoirs Volume III is introduced by Robert Arnot and represents Royalty and aristocracy of Europe. That portion contains 175 pages, and again, some are uncut. The 2nd portion contains Goethe's Annals, or Day And Year Papers, with introductions by Edward Dowden and translator, Charles Nisbet. There are 261 pages in this section. There is one page in this section where part of the margin was torn away when the page was cut. No text was affected. This was the only such blemish noted. But I must say, the rough cut edges do make it difficult to examine each page in detail. I leafed through each volume several times in an effort to find any flaws. I believe if there are any, they are minor. The books will be securely packed to withstand rough postal handling. They are heavy.
