The iconic match up of Luke speeding his X-Wing through the Death Star trench with Darth Vader relentlessly pursuing him is recreated in this nostalgic set of action figures from the first release of Star Wars figures since the original set in the 1970s and 80s. Both of these action figures were part of the first wave of The Power of the Force line and had different variations in the their cardbacks throughout subsequent releases - but the Luke is a particularly rare variant. The first set of The Power of the Force figures that came with lightsabers (Luke Skywalker, X-Wing Luke, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader) had unrealistically long lightsaber blades that are included with both of these figures. For the second set, the Dagobah Luke (plus the previous four) were adjusted and released with movie accurate length blades. For the initial shipment (designated by the .01 production number on the cardback), the tray that held the lightsaber was still the length of the long saber as Kenner made the switch after the production started on the packaging. The lightsaber itself that shipped inside was short, and you will find descriptions of the rare "Short Saber / Long Tray" or "Transition Tray". However this variant of the Luke X-Wing figure is one of an even rarer subset that made it out of production still having the long lightsaber and a .01 cardback, the short saber / long tray variant is also considered rare as all other shipments of these figures going forward had a short saber with a short tray. Luke Skywalker is a young, brave and heroic pilot and Jedi in training who joined the Rebel Alliance to fight against the evil Galactic Empire. He is the son of Anakin Skywalker, who became Darth Vader, and Padmé Amidala, who died giving birth to him and his twin sister Leia Organa. He grew up on the desert planet of Tatooine with his aunt and uncle, unaware of his true heritage. He learned the ways of the Force from Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, and faced Darth Vader in a climactic duel on Cloud City, where he lost his right hand and learned the shocking truth about his father. Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, was once a Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker. He turned to the dark side of the Force and became the right-hand man of Emperor Palpatine, the ruler of the Galactic Empire. He wore a black suit of armor and a helmet that helped him breathe, as he was severely injured by his former master Obi-Wan Kenobi. He wielded a red-bladed lightsaber, which was longer than usual in this version of the figure. He also had a removable cape and a chest plate with buttons. STAR WARS THE POWER OF THE FORCE was a toy line produced by Hasbro from 1995 to 2000, featuring characters, vehicles, and accessories from the original trilogy and the Expanded Universe. It was the first Star Wars action figure collection since the vintage line ended in 1985. The initial figures had a muscular look that was later toned down for more movie accuracy. The packaging design changed over the years, from orange to green to hologram to freeze frame. The toy line was well received by collectors and fans, and introduced many new characters and variations to the Star Wars universe.
