Description: Lot 2 Vintage German OpisometersMap Measurement Tools One is by company "Tacro, Inc." The other is labeled "Compass" and has a compass (working) on the other side. One, I think, is pre-WW2, as it uses the old Russian word "verstes". A "verst" is a unit of measurement, a bit longer than a kilometer. The USSR switched to "kilometers" in the 1930's, to get on the same page with the rest of Europe. An opisometer, also called a curvimeter, meilograph, or map measurer, is an instrument for measuring the lengths of arbitrary curved lines. My father had one of these (plastic) in the 1950's, which he used to trace along a map to get approximate mileage. It also had a scale adjustment. These also double as mechanical pencils, handy for measuring, then making notes. Thanks for looking!
