Twelve companies met these standards and manufactured the watches that would be dubbed the "Dirty Dozen" and fascinate collectors for decades. Whether worn in war or on an expedition in the farthest reaches of the Arctic, the "Greenlander" was meant to withstand it all. Longines’s contribution to the Dirty Dozen, Ref. 23088 in stainless steel, has been nicknamed “The Greenlander” due to a long-held (though ultimately debunked) belief that it was worn on the British North Greenland Expedition in 1952-1954.
