It can easily grow in water to 10-15 inches above the roots in an 2 gallon or larger container with heavy loam soil. This water lily will spread quickly to 40 to 65 inches and has white flowers with yellow center. Blooms from spring to fall. A good grower that will spread quickly, hardy zones 3 - 12. The first picture is the water lily white flower it blooms in our pond. The second to fourth pictures are plant size and shape with full roots, stems and 3-6 pads. Hardies grow horizontally across the container so a wide pot is necessary for planting. The plant should be planted at one edge of the container with the rhizome planted at an angle of about 45 degrees and the growing tip exposed. Remember to add fertilizer, use a rich garden soil, and top the soil with an inch or two of gravel or sand. The plant can be lowered to a depth of 6 inches to begin with, and then lowered to a depth of 12 to 18 inches as the plant grows. Hardies should be planted in early spring. They bloom from June through September depending on the weather, and become dormant during the colder months. As the following spring approaches, growth will begin again.
