Description: Limoges Bernardaud B&Co 2 Cups & Saucers 1900-1914 Greek Key Dainty Scrolls Gold An Elegant Decorative Set of 2 CUPS & SAUCERS from B&Co. (L. Bernardaud & Company) Limoges, France, BLACK GREEK KEY w/DAINTY SCROLLWORK, Smooth Rim w/GOLD Trim on White, circa 1900-1914 DESCRIPTION: The set of 2 cups & saucers was decorated by a talented artist. The color palette used is black, green & orange on white w/gold. The black Greek Key is bright and eye-catching and the scrollwork is dainty and colorful. The verge has a gold ring and the rims are trimmed in gold. The handles of the cups are painted in solid gold paint. See the photos. CONDITION: While this set of 2 cups and saucers is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is slight stacking wear to the gold on the bottom of both handles on the cups and near the rim of one cup. See photos #22 & #7. There is no other gold or paint wear. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. See the photos to judge for yourself. DIMENSIONS: The cups have a diameter of 3 1/2” and a height of 2 1/8" with a capacity of 6 ounces. HISTORY/MARKS: Remy Delinieres and P. Guery established a pottery in the 1860’s in Limoges, France. Delinieres became head of the company after 1879 and established a porcelain decorating shop in 1881 as part of the factory. In 1900, the company becomes Leon Bernardaud & Co. Leon & his father had worked for Delinieres and eventually purchased the company. Leon Bernardaud’s family continued his company which is still in operation. The B&Co (Bernardaud & Company) mark on this is the green underglaze white ware mark #1 used 1900-1914 as cited in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition. This also has the gold decorator mark #3 used 1900-1930's. This makes the circa for this item to be 1900-1914. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
