Original blue gilt hardback, vignette illustration of Alice with the Pig Baby in gilt to front cover and the Cheshire Cat to rear cover. Measuring 7.5 inches by 5.25 inches. 196 pages. With 42 engraved illustrations by John Tenniel including full page frontispiece as called for. All edges gilt. The book is in very attractive condition with covers remaining very bright, slight darkening to the spine, and wear to the corner tips and spine ends (see pictures). Original dark brown end papers. Prize inscription from Montpelier House, Brentwood, to the reverse of the frontispiece. Binding sound and square. A very nice example. Scarce.
