Description: Both volumes, hardcover without dust jackets. Both volumes are handsome ex-library copies, having: library code in white ink on spines; some sticker residue on back board from removed stickers; front bookplates and stickers on ffep; pencil on ffep and back of title page, embossed stamps on some pages, back bookplates and corner holders for library cards. In volume 2, many pages throughout are connected at the top, with 2 unconnected pages in between them (e.g., the top of pg 17 is attached to the top of pg 23) - some of these connections have been cut cleanly, but most have not. The hinges on both volumes are a bit tender when pressure is applied - most notably the bottom-front hinge of Vol II), but are sound and secure for regular use and gutter endpaper is intact. Bindings are sound and overall fine, but both volume have a few spots with some splitting in gutters with webbing visible. Volume 2 has ~20 pages with bumped bottom corners. Some pages have minor damage to edges or corners (e.g., bumping to edge causing small rips or chips, or small bit of a corner missing). Overall, text is bright, clean and clear of writing/markings/highlighting other than ex-library markings. Both volumes hardcover boards corners are bumped, curling inward, with fabric beginning to fray; board edges rubbed and lightly bumped. Fabric has light surface scratching. Some white streaking across volume 2 fabric. Some creasing/ripping in fabric at top and bottom of spine, most notable on top of spine on volume 1.
