HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT DRAFT TYPED LETTER WITH CORRECTIONS HANDWRITTEN BY JOHN F. KENNEDY AS PRESIDENT PRAISING THE UNITED NATIONS ROLE IN ENDING THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS Reads in full: “I appreciate your kind words that you expressed in your speech in Cookeville. I was glad to see what you said about the United Nations. It has many faults, but as the events of the past two weeks demonstrated, we could not get along without it them. I am glad you are will be there.” Although the Cuban Missile Crisis ended on October 28, 1962, President Kennedy continued the naval quarantine around Cuba until the Soviet Union completely dismantled and removed their missiles on November 20. “I WAS GLAD TO SEE WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT THE UNITED NATIONS. IT HAS MANY FAULTS, BUT AS THE EVENTS OF THE PAST TWO WEEKS DEMONSTRATED, WE COULD NOT GET ALONG WITHOUT IT THEM.” Contains one page on White House letterhead, measures 8.875 by 6.75 inches, created in Washington, DC on November 2, 1962, in near pristine condition with only staple holes to the top left corner, and accompanied with documentation, including a copy of a letter from Kennedy’s secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, explaining the provenance.
