Attractive publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, gilt spine & cover decorations. Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Paul Gavarni, the pseudonym of Sulpice Guillaume Chevalier (1804 - 1866), was a prolific and well known French cartoonist around this date. Binding gently age worn but still very bright and appealing, cloth along both joints split, spine ends chipped, book remains overall attractive as a decorative physical object of this era. Text block paper is age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A book which has been taken care of but does not look like a new book. This is an antique old book which has been handled over the past many decades. Still extremely attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
