Description: For sale is a Large WW1 British Royal Navy Copper Cradle From The Salvage Of HMS Dido which was a Eclipse-class cruisers during WW1. HMS Dido was an Eclipse-class protected cruiser built for the Royal Navy in the mid-1890s. HMS Dido was completed in 1898, after completing some service during WW1 she was sold for scrap in 1926. When being sold for scrap parts of her would have been salvaged to be made into little souvenirs like this cradle made from copper and brass. This is the first piece we’ve seen on this scale! Usually your see little barrels made from the decks of the ship. While serving in the Mediterranean she cruised Greek waters in March 1900. She was later posted to the China Station. In October 1901 she left Hong Kong homebound, arriving at Sheerness 14 December. She paid off at Chatham on 11 January 1902 and was placed in the Fleet Reserve as an emergency ship. She received a Le Cheminant chronometer from the Royal Observatory on 17 March 1916. It was more than a year until she was commissioned again in February 1903 with the crew of HMS Galatea, succeeding her as coast guard ship at Humber district based at Hull. This measures 41cm in length x 23cm in width x 12cm in height. This can be cleaned, please note that one set of the brass feet have come Loose but are still attached.
