Description: Barbara C FreemanLarge Collection of 75 Original Drawings This is a rare opportunity to acquire a large collection of 75 original pencil drawings on paper by the artist Barbara C Freeman: Her Wiki entry is as follows: Barbara Constance Freeman was born on 29 November 1906 inEaling, near London. She attended the Tiffin Girls' School in Kingston uponThames in Surrey and later studied at the Kingston School of Art. She illustrated many books by other writers, includingThe Treasure Hunters by Enid Blyton, and many collections of fairy tales, bothtraditional tales by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen and modernstories. Some of her earliest illustrations are found in The Cuckoo Book(1942), a book of fairy tales by Edith Mary Bell. She also contributed tocomics, including Playhour, and to annuals, such as, Blackie's Children'sAnnual 1934. By the 1960s she had begun writing and illustrating herown books for children and young adults. Some have a touch of fantasy: inTwo-Thumb Thomas the eponymous hero is raised by school cats; inBroom-Adelaide, a fox rides a flying broomstick. Some, including Lucinda andThe Name on the Glass, are set in the past, while in others, such as A Book byGeorgina and The Other Face, the lives of the main characters are interwovenwith history. Her books have not remained in print, but some of herillustrations are still available as posters and art prints.I am unable to include images of every picture on this platform so will happily send you good resolution images of each work upon request. One of the pictures is dated 1946 so I believe all these to have been created in the1940's. One of the pictures is signed Barbara C Freeman on verso. The rest are unsigned. Many of the works are annotated with the letters -EL. I would be fascinated to learn what -EL stood for. A book project perhaps. Let me know if you have any ideas! Paper size is approx 280 x 360mm 7 or 8 works are approx 360 x 550mm and have been folded in half (or perhaps are from a sketchbook). The paper on all have small creases and small tears along the edges which is commensurate with drawings of this age. The integrity of the drawn image is largely unaffected so all works could be over matted to hide edges of the paper. They really are wonderful works on paper. Please message me with any questions.
