The firesteel holder comes with elastic Shock cord to replace/add to your firesteel handle as the lanyard for retention. Simply install the firesteel into the holder with tip of rod sticking out other end and stretch the shock cord lanyard over the tip for a secure hold. The Firesteel holder is made with a 3/8" diameter rod and will hold rods up to 3/8". NEVER DEPEND ON THE HOLDER ITSELF TO RETAIN THE ROD! EVENTUALLY THE ROD WILL THIN OUT FROM STRIKING SPARKS AND WILL BE LOOSE AFTER SEVERAL USES OF THE ROD!!! ALWAYS USE A SHOCKCORD LANYARD WITH THE FIRESTEEL!!!
