Description: Beautifully Crafted, these were designed based on input from Sifu Carmelino Huang Guiao II and four other instructors from the Grandmaster William Cheung lineage. Grandmaster Cheung had said that he liked the Hung Gar Long Stabbers but wanted something a bit more pointy. We think these fit the bill. Design: These training-grade swords are the first butterfly swords (that we know of) expertly designed specifically for the Grandmaster William Cheung Traditional Wing Chun lineage. They will stab, cut, and execute a back cut. The blade is Searle's bowie style in the format made popular and done so well by custom knife maker Bruce Bump. The D-Guard is an entirely new trapper design intended to improve both trapping and hand protection. Since these swords do not flip, there is no wasted space in the knucklebow. The butt is rounded and heavy steel to facilitate bashing. The ergonomic handle is straight to accommodate the back cut and percussion chops versus armor. Blade Steel: High-Quality 420 Stainless Blade HRC: All blades are heat-treated for hardness. As a general guide for all the steels we use: D2 is treated to about HRC 58; 440C to 58 HRC for cutting performance; Damascus Steel to about 55 HRC. San Mai gets differential heat treatment because of the 2 materials. The core gets 56/58 and the outer material gets 45. It can depends on the steels, though. Carbon and Hammon is about HRC 55-57 (depends on exact steel). 420 is 54-55 HRC. Blade Grind: Wide Lenticular Grind (for improved edge strength). Blade Sharpness: Blunt with 3mm edge. (For safety and so they don't cut into people/poles, etc). Blade Finish: Matte Blade Fuller: These swords do not have a fuller (blood groove). Blade Weight: These swords are at a combat training-weight that builds strength and endurance that will equate to more speed and power later. They are in-line with the weapon-grade sword's weights or slightly more. Handle Wood: Brown Pakkawood Handle Ergonomics: (Varies on model): The handles on Flagship models are angled ergonomically. On the Domination models they have a very slight angle, but are mostly straight (not perfectly straight like the weapon-grade models, though). Tomb Warrior and Ip Man Replicas have straight handles with ergonomic grips. Handle Width: The handles are slightly thinner than the weapon-grade models so that you can add grip tape to them. They are a fully functional width, but people with larger hands might want to use the grip tape to expand the width some. Grip tape can make a big difference when you are sweaty and training hard. Balance: The balance on these swords tries to imitate the weapons-grade models. However, because the blades are thicker than their weapon-grade counterparts, the balance might be slightly more blade-heavy. That said, they should all balance before the end of the quillon tip, regardless of model. Tang: These swords are a partial tang welded into another large steel plate in the handle, which is welded to the D-guard. They will hold up quite well for training. D-Guard: The D-Guard on these swords are slightly thinner than the weapons-grade models and have slightly more squared edges. Sheath: These swords come with a cheap 2-in-1 nylon sheath. Sheathes are given for free "as-is". The heft of these swords would make them great candidates for one of the MasterPath carrying cases.
