Description: For sale are a pair of chopstick or spoon rests in the Kiyomizu Ware style and marked Shousai, or Pine Workshop. The rests feature a pair of comical Japanese characters, Hyottoko & Okame, The male Hyottoko's mouth is puckered and he wears a blue and white dotted bandana. Okame is said to be ugly but have a good nature; she has a round face and rosy cheeks. The pair often appear in literature, theater or as masks. Both pieces are in very good condition with no damage or wear; they have heavy crazing, more visible on Okame (photographs 10 & 11) The original box has some damage on the top where the metallic silver paper is torn away (photograph 12); general storage wear overall.
