The first part of the book is his work for stars - who doesn't need a phone? Frank Sinatra, Jack Warner. Mae West. Irreverent, funny, sad meetings. Fahey admits he can't keep his mouth shut which gets him into and out of trouble. Then you meet his uncle the animal trainer (who trained the MGM lion), and had the scars to prove it. His uncle was half-assed -- read the book andy ou'll find our why. Then there is a cast of outrageous ruffian adults that populated his life. Fahey is funny, crude, sophisticated - this is a great read. Fahey also was famous for building a home/art structure/tower called Phonehedge West out in the Mojave Desert. The system made him take it down and sentenced him to over a year in jail for not paying demolition costs. Update: I should have mentioned. If you are puritanical you will be dismayed at his straightforward descriptions of hedonistic activity. Yes, there are some very descriptive pages about the swinger or swapping scene in LA. There are other sexual recountings as well, some of them very funny, some sad. He doesn't bother with euphemisms. Also, there are a few distressing tales, such as his witnessing spousal abuse by a neighbor. If you don't like it, move on to another page. The rest of the book is too rewarding. Again, the directness of his writing is a high point of the book.
