Description: This is an Original Serigraph "Killer Whale #104" Pacific Northwest Coast Art By noted artist Milli Johnson (1930s-1960s), Nor'west Productions, Seattle, WA. This print is in the Medium Size format described below.ConditionThe serigraph is in excellent condition. This is one of 14 four different Pacific Northwest Coast serigraphs by Milli Johnson being listed individually. We purchased these serigraphs quite some years ago. When we purchased them the seller told us that Mili Johnson was the principal, or one of the principal organizers, of the Bellevue Arts Fair, a major event in Bellevue, Washington in the Seattle area, held annually each July.Additional information about the artist along with examples of her work in other mediums including totem poles and other carvings, and oil paintings can be easily found online. The online information on several sites had conflicting tribal affiliations of Haida and Chinook. The wikipedia article each tribe stated that the Haida and Chinook tribes are First Nations and Native American, respectively. We do not have any first hand knowledge or verification of any of this information, nor do we know which of the two tribal attributions is correct. Some of the serigraphs are in "portrait" orientation and others are in "landscape" orientation as seen. The serigraphs are in two different formats:Medium Size - The four designs are on heavy, high quality paper, 11 1/2" x 14 1/2" or 14 1/2" x 11 1/2" in portrait or landscape orientation, respectively. These prints are stamped in black by the artist including a design number and title / subject as seen in a closeup photo in those respective listings.Large Size - These ten designs are on good quality but lighter weight paper, 17" x 23" or 23" x 17" in portrait or landscape orientation, respectively. These prints were not stamped on the back by the artist. The help keep the different designs straight, I devised my own numbering and naming system, consisting of the Native American animal symbol represented with an L representing the Large format, a number from one to 10 for each design, and a -P or -L indicating whether the print is in portrait or landscape orientation, respectively. The large format prints were not stamped and titled by the artist. I think I have identified the Native American symbols correctly but if anyone knowledgeable in this area is aware of any I have misidentified and would care to let me know it would be much appreciated. All of the photos in both formats were take with a hand held camera without benefit of a tripod, so some of the images are not centered precisely as they are on the paper, there may be slightly omissions of the edges of the paper or small artifacts of the surroundings of my work area. The relative sizes of the two formats are detailed above, but in each listing, I also included a composite image of a medium and large format print, both in portrait mode so that you can see the size of each relative to the other, and better assess the format that will best suit your needs for your decor and the space you have available for display. The composite photo is included in each listing for the purposes of comparison ONLY. We are not experts on serigraphs, but I found an excellent video online that provided a short tutorial on identifying serigraphs. The video stated, and illustrated, observing "offset registration" of the successive colors applied, using one silk screen for each color. Each of the four medium sized serigraph listings being created contains two closeup photos where you can see the offset of the red onto the black, as well as in some instances, onto the white of the paper between various forms. The elements of these Native American symbols have a greater separation than might be the case with serigraphs of different subject matter, but in the areas where the colors do touch, the registration is easy to observe, identifying these pieces as serigraphs. Each of these beautifully executed, high quality serigraphs being sold individually would look wonderful framed and matted, either individually, or as a grouping in a variety of configurations to meet the needs of your decor, including 2 x 2, in a single row, or randomly spaced.Shipping - Medium serigraphs - The medium prints will be shipped flat by USPS Priority Mail. If you purchase more that one of the four, please do not make immediate payment. I will send an invoice with adjusted combined shipping so that you will pay only cost seen in the USPS calculator for the first print, and the others will be shipped at no additional charge. Large serigraphs - The large prints are on lighter weight paper and will be more safely shipped rolled. Your print will be shipped in a sturdy brand new mailing tube, at a nominal flat rate of $2.00 for US domestic shipping. If you purchase more than one of the large prints, do not make payment immediately. I will combine your shipments, and send you an invoice for a single $2.00 shipping charge in the same tube. The tubes should hold a number of prints, but if an additional tube is needed that will be at our expense as well as long as the prints have been purchased and paid together.
