Description: PRIVATE COLLECION. LONG 77 CM. SUITABLE FOR MUSEUMS, HOTELS OR RESTAURANTS History: Karaka is a large sailing ship used from the 14th to the 17th century, intended for the transport of cargo.Ships of the carrack type appeared in Venice at the beginning of the 14th century, but they began to be built in Dubrovnik almost at the same time as the largest cargo ships on the Adriatic. In the 15th century, carracks spread from the Adriatic to the Mediterranean Sea, and by the end of the 15th century, to the Atlantic Ocean. At that time, they were built by the Spanish, Portuguese, French and Dutch. In the 16th century, Dubrovnik carracks were among the largest ships in the world and sailed as far as England. The best proof of how highly regarded Dubrovnik carracks were is that the English coined their literary term for such ships – argosy.
