All lids signed "JJ", 18K, Jules Jürgensen, No. 9994. Diablotine Second activated by a push piece in the band above 12, funktion is blocked when the lid is closed. Cuvette signed, holes for winding and setting the time. The case is very well preserved with slight signs of wear. Two piece enamel dial with signature of the watchmaker. Radial roman numerals and red chronograph - indices in 1/5 sec. division. Original, very filigree, blued Breguet hands. Small, recessed second hand. Chronograph steel hands from the middle. The dial is in a very nice condition, small superficial scratches in the area of the small second hand. Highly complicated nickel plated bridge movement with "fausses côtes" decoration. 19"' lines. straight line lever escapement with short fork. Finely worked anchor with large visible pallets and ring-shaped balance weight. Bevelled and polished steel escape wheel. Both trains with gold weehls The first three ruby jewels fitted in gold settings. Double mainspring barrel with key wind. Independent second movement, blued Breguet hairspring. Split bimetallic balance wheel with screwed Gold weights. Piguet Frères Ébauche, no. 9994, signed Jules Jürgensen Copenhagen. An identical movement (No. 9920) is illustrated and described in John M. R. Knudsen's book "The Jürgensen Dynasty" on page 252. Diameter 51,5 mm, weight 124 gr. Movement and case no. 9994, circa 1864/65. Signed on dial, movement and case. The clean movement works perfectly. The watch is in very nice and fully functional condition. Jules Jürgensen (1808-1877) He was born in 1808 in Le Locle as the son of the watchmaker Urban Jürgensen (grandson of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet). In Copenhagen, Jürgensen was trained in his family's watchmaking business and also studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. Shortly after the death of his maternal grandfather, he went to Switzerland and opened a watch factory in Le Locle in 1834.
