Description: Outstanding etching by important French painter and printmaker Jules Jacques Veyrassat (1808-1893). Associated with the Barbizon School, Veyrassat began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in the 1840s. He became a highly regarded etcher in the 1860s, winning several awards. Veyrassat's etchings, unlike those of fellow Barbizon artists Millet and Jacque, often focused on farm scenes, pastoral subjects, genre scenes, and farm animals. His prints have a rare, personal quality that is unmatched in comparable 19th century prints. A number of Veyrassat prints, including this one, may be seen online at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (this print is identified as "Stubborn Donkey"). . The etching is initialled in the plate lower right. It is in excellent condition (the top margin appears to have been trimmed. 3 5/8" x 5" (plate size). Unframed. Payment by PayPal. Shipping is $10.00 in the continental U.S. Please see my other auctions for more fine paintings and prints.
