Lilly, the head of the pharmaceutical company and namesake of the Lilly Library, was a dedicated collector of music, autographs and memorabilia related to the life and works of Stephen Foster, a native of Pittsburgh. He built a special "music hall" in the outskirts of Indianapolis to house his collection, but in 1937 donated the collection to the University of Pittsburgh, which dedicated a Foster Hall of its own in the newly constructed Cathedral of Learning. Some years ago we acquired some duplicates from that collection and this was among them. Fine.
