In overall stable and very attractive condition. Frame as shown in pictures. José Bedia, Cuban American, 1959— José began deciphering this tribal language as a teenager. Forty years later, stepping into his home, one is transported to a pulsating cosmos of tribal energy. Every space is covered with ceremonial paraphernalia from cultures around the world. José has a particular affinity toward pieces from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Native Americans of the Great Lakes, Plains and Southwest. These objects inform his being and become inspiration to his art. José is as much a collector as he is an artist and these elements have become part of his DNA. José Bedia is not only a master painter, he is a multi-disciplined student of the arts. He studied at the Escuela de Artes Plasticas San Alejandro in 1976, and at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba, in 1981. Bedia became the artist-in-residence at the State University of New York in Old Westbury in 1985. José Bedia’s works are in many important private collections as well as the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, The Guggenheim Museum in New York and the PAMM.
