Description: JONATHAN TRUMBULL. Jonathan Trumbull (1710-1785) was the Governor of Connecticut who was the only colonial governor to side with the Americans during the American Revolution. IMPORTANT REVOLUTIONARY WAR-DATED AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY JONATHAN TRUMBULL AS CONNECTICUT GOVERNOR RECEIVES FUNDING FROM ROBERT MORRIS FOR THE WAR EFFORT Important Revolutionary War-dated autograph letter signed by, “Jonth. Trumbull,” as Governor receives funding from Robert Morris for the war effort: “I presume Mr. Morris’s Notes will be received as good as Cash, they answer all the purposes of Money.” Morris (1734-1806) was one of the Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and Constitution. He was widely known as the “financier of the American Revolution” who served as the Superintendent of Finance from 1781 to 1784 and is considered to be a founder of the United States financial system. Governor Trumbull also receives an update on the Continental Army from the Deputy Commissary Oliver Phelps and the states taxes from the Committee of Pay Table: “I have received your’s of the 13th day. The Receipt you mention must be from some One of The Contractors Oliver Phelps Esqr. & Compa. or from some person Authorized by him or them…Enclosed is a general Return of the 2/6 Tax–please to get The Committee of Pay Table to fill it up–and send it again to one, so soon as you have done with the Use of it.” ACCOMPANIED WITH A LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY FROM BECKETT (CERTIFICATION NUMBER: AB07051), THE WORLD’S LEADING AUTOGRAPH AUTHENTICATION COMPANY Contains one page with the address panel on the verso in Trumbull’s hand, sent to Ebenezer Barnard, measures 9.5 by 6.75 inches, created in Lebanon, Connecticut on July 20, 1782, in pristine condition, and accompanied with a letter of authenticity from Beckett (Certification Number: AB07051), the world’s leading autograph authentication company.
