Description: Offered is the vintage book "John M. Browning-American Gunmaker", written by John Browning and Curt Gentry and published in 1964 by Doubleday & Co. in Garden City, New York. The book, "an illustrated biography of the man and his guns" is a stated first edition and is also a "gold seal edition", a designation applied by the Browning Arms Co., who added the embossed gold seal to the title page. There are many black and white illustrations and photos as well as one color illustration, a color frontispiece portrait of Browning. The original dust jacket is included. The book is approx. 9 3/8" x 6 1/4" and contains 323 pages. The book itself is in very good condition. The dark green hard cover has no wear, although there is some minor discoloration at the bottom of the front and back. The gold words on the spine and front are still shiny. There is no cracking inside either the front or the back cover. The white endpapers are clean but have browned slightly. I see no missing or torn pages and all are well-attached to the binding. They have yellowed slightly but are otherwise mostly clean. I see no writing in the book, but the probable original owner has put a small name and address label on the title page, half-title page and on the last page of the book. The dust jacket has some short tears and some tiny bits missing along the edges. There is also an area of surface wear at the lower front. The lighter-colored areas have yellowed and there is a small area of soiling along the back flap edge.
