His forte’ was painting landscapes and seascapes, which he did with a distinctive style. His paintings are done in a broad, realistic style, similar to that of the well-known British artist, Henry John Kinnaird, who apparently influenced him. Hooper made his debut in London at the Suffolk Street Gallery, where he exhibited in 1877-78. He continued to exhibit at important venues throughout England through 1899. He exhibited six times at The Royal Academy, which included views of Mapledurham, Pangbourne and Sonning. He also exhibited at The Walker Art Gallery, in Liverpool, The Royal Hibernian Academy and The Arthur Tooth & Sons Gallery. Many of his exhibited works featured the upper Thames, a subject Hooper returned to throughout his career. Many of Hooper’s works have been sold auction, including “A Moments Contemplation” which sold at Christie’s South Kensington ‘British and Victorian Paintings’ auction in 2005. John Horace Hooper was active until 1899, and he died in 1906. PAYMENT: Payment is required within 3 days of purchase. Payment must be made in U.S. Dollars through eBay or via Credit Card or PayPal.
