Description: Johann Haviland Cakeplate & 8 Dessert Plates Pink Rose of Picardy 1937-1970's Johann Haviland Exquisite Decorative SET of CAKEPLATE w/8 DESSERT PLATES, PINK & GREEN Wild ROSE Sprays w/GOLD Rims, from Waldershof, Bavaria, Germany, circa 1937-1970's DESCRIPTION: The beautiful set was produced in a cheerful rose spray pattern (Rose of Picardy) using a pink, red and green color palette on a creamy white with gold. In addition to the pink wild roses and green thorny vines the design contains green leaves and grey ghost leaves to add depth to the painting. The design looks so eye-catching. Each rim is trimmed in gold paint as are the reticulated handles of the cake plate. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks or wear on the gold. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: Each dessert plate has a diameter of 7 5/8" with a height of 3/4". The cakeplate is 11 1/8" handle to handle while its diameter is 10". HISTORY/MARKS: John Haviland, the grandson of David Haviland and son of Charles Haviland, started his own company Johann Haviland Company in Bavaria, Waldershof, Germany in 1907 since he could get the kaolin needed to make porcelain. By 1924, his business had failed. An Italian firm (Richard-Ginori) bought the company. In 1937 it was sold to the Rosenthal conglomerate and began producing fine china for export to the United States using the mark “Johann Haviland, Bavaria, Germany”.
