Description: Absolutely beautiful copy of the original 1960 true first pressing of Jimmy Giuffre’s Ad Lib LP on Verve stereo MG-VS-6130. One of the great players in the West Coast jazz scene, Giuffre really should have been considered one of the great players of the era, but people for some reason to this day love to marginalize the West Coast scene, which is ridiculous. This album really shows him at his best. Clearly he is under the spell of Coltrane here, with similar “sheets of sound” and some amazing arpeggio acrobatics… half on alto, half on clarinet. Red Mitchell plays bass, as well as Jimmy Rowles on piano and Lawrence Marable on drums. This is the true first pressing with the stereo Living Sound Fidelity labels. The disc is just beautiful and plays pretty close to flawlessly and just beautifully. There is a superficial scuff on side two but it doesn’t affect the play at all. This copy is just breathtakingly clean and clear. Wonderful listen. The cover has about a 4” a seam split -5 at the top, which has been lightly taped. The rest of the top edge has a bit of fraying as well, but the other edges are perfect. The lower right corner is a little rubbed and there is light ringwear but overall this is a beautiful cover. The original Verve inner sleeve is also still included. This is quite a beauty of a copy. Hard to beat.
