Warren and his wife Sylvia, in their travels of collecting Folk Art, met many of the folk artists, such as Royal Robertson and other outsider artists. In 1992, in Lafayette, Louisiana, an exhibition of works, titled “It’ll Come True: Eleven Artists, First and Last”, was assembled from the holdings of the Louisiana-based collectors Warren and Sylvia Lowe. That exhibition featured works they had acquired since the presentation of a first exhibition of selections from their collection, “Baking in the Sun: Visionary Images from the South”, in the late 1980s, including pieces by Sulton Rogers, Herbert Singleton, Mose Tolliver, and Juanita Rogers & others. Size: 36"x 48" Very Large piece Excerpt from an essay on Sudduth by Anton Haardt Sudduth's work has been shown from New York to San Francisco and Europe. Jimmie Lee Sudduth lived in a shot gun house in Fayette, Alabama. He finger painted beautiful earth-toned pictures. He often used homegrown plants for color: Rose petals for red, wild turnip leaves for green, a chalky clay for white. "I don't like to use paint too much," he said. Sudduth was also an accomplished harmonica player and often would sit down and wail out a spiritual while his painting dries. He was proud of his success, marked by a very early appearance on the Today show in the 1960’s. He liked to boast, "I'm the most famousest in the world." "I'm easy to find. I'm in the center of the universe! You see that black mud? All you got to do is take that black mud and mix a little sugar in it. Stir it up and sweeten it, add a little water and you can paint all day." More of his art can be found at The Anton Haardt Gallery. VISIT MY EBAY STORE TO SEE MORE FOLK ART & ANTIQUES
