Description: Jim Nabors, aka Gomer Pyle from the TV series of the same name, demonstrates what great pipes he had during his recording hey days of the 1960s and 1970s.If you were around then and recall Gomer Pyle/Jim Nabors,I invite you to re-discover,in case you have forgotten, just how good the man was. This CD also makes a great starter for making new fans of Jim Nabors.Mr Nabors was discovered in a cabaret club in Santa Monica in the early 60s by Andy Griffith who invited him onto his television show as a dim witted gas attendant.Appearing on other shows such as The Danny Kaye Show he showed off his beautiful baritone voice and soon had a recording contract in hand. His recording career really caught on though once he got his own TV show Gomer Pyle.Playing a dim witted but lovable and well meaning PFC,the show was hugely popular and on several shows his singing voice was highlighted much to the delight and surprise of his viewing audience. His record sales soared and after the cancellation of Gomer Pyle he latched onto his own variety hour which ran for about two seasons.Since then he has appeared in several different venues and has received many accolades and honours from his peers and various other organizations, the least of which was the US Marine Corps who made him an honorary Corporal(from PFC in Gomer Pyle)in 2001!During this time he owned and ran a successful Macadamea Nut plantation in Hawaii where he still lives to this day. This wonderful album/CD of Jim Nabors Christmas songs from his /67 and /72 period of recordings at Columbia, highlight that wonderful vocal baritone of his, such as "Oh Come All Ye Faithful","Silent Night","Have yourself a Merry Christmas" and nine others..These are remastered gems all and should have a permanent place in your Christmas music collection.
