Description: Up for bid is a rare Scapolite specimen from a new find in Valyermo, CA. This piece has a large patch of Scapolite and fluoresces a bright Yellow under LW UV (first Picture). Fluorescent Scapolite from Valyermo, CA was discovered by Tom Warren in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Tom collected about 1,000 lbs of this material and gradually sold it off over the next 30 years. His stock was depleted by the late 1980s. Tom Warren had this material analyzed and concluded the material was manganapatite and sold it as such for 30 years. X-ray diffraction analysis performed in 1986 indicated the material was actually Scapolite. The original analysis was so far off it is assumed the lab analyzed the wrong sample. After many decades of searching, the original location of this material has been found on private land. The new material has large pieces of yellow fluorescing Scapolite crystals in isolated patches. Tom’s original material had a solid mass of much smaller pieces of Yellow fluorescing Scapolite crystals.
