A very good, clean set in the publisher's full sheep with gilt-stamped black morocco spine labels. Two thick, heavy volumes, usually found quite rough. The outer joints to both volumes are partially cracked and thus tender. However the inner hinges are intact, and the contents appear clean and unread. Small hole to the spine leather in volume II just below the lower spine label, and some wear to corners and extremities, but considerably less than is often seen on this publisher's binding. Contemporary ownership signature of D. L. Lowrie of Cleveland in each volume, both dated August 13, 1881 (the year of publication). Entirely free of restoration, and scarce thus.
