Description: This is a rare May 3rd, 1951 "Playgoer" playbill from the three-night, out-of-town tryout of the FERENC MOLNAR comedy "THE GUARDSMAN" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The revival opened January 25th, 1951 at the Erlanger Theatre in Buffalo, New York and played 23 cities. Due to less than enthusiastic notices, the production closed on the road June 2nd, 1951, failing to arrive on Broadway.) ..... The play starred JEANETTE MacDONALD and her husband GENE RAYMOND and featured HERBERT BERGHOF, JOSEPHINE BROWN, GWEN VANDAM and MAURICE SHROG ..... Side Note: The story was slightly revised with the leading role of “The Actress” changed to “The Singer” to allow MacDonald to add several songs .....
