This, and other Jean Shepherd writings that I am selling, are from the estate of actress Lois Nettleton, who was married to Shepherd from 1960-1967. Jean Shepherd (1921 - 1999) was an American writer, radio raconteur and TV personality, as well as an actor. Shepherd is perhaps best remembered in a contemporary sense for co-writing (based on his own somewhat autobiographical stories) and narrating the film A Christmas Story (1983). A very influential figure in American humor, any kind of Jean Shepherd autograph material is rare. In addition to his unscripted stories, his radio shows also contained, among other things, humorous anecdotes and general commentaries about the human condition, observations about every day life in New York and travels throughout the world. Two-time Emmy Award winning actress Lois Nettleton (1927 - 2008) was a veteran of stage, film, and television for more than 50 years. She appeared with Jean Shepherd in his off-Broadway play "Look Charlie" in 1959. Miss Nettleton held Jean Shepherd’s work in high regard and once remarked: "I think what he was doing was so - it was unique and it was profound and it was real genius! He was a storyteller in the true sense. It just came from inside. It came out differently - a little differently each time. I really want him to be recognized for what he was - a brilliant genius. The wonderful, wonderful unique - the wonderful thing that he was." Very little Jean Shepherd manuscript material has survived and it rarely appears for sale. No rights are given or implied.
