Description: J&C Jaeger & Co Covered Syrup w/Underplate Handpainted Yellow Roses w/Gold 1912 J&C Jaeger & Co Covered Syrup w/Underplate 1912 Handpainted Yellow Roses w/Gold An Exquisite HAND PAINTED Decorative COVERED SYRUP w/UNDERPLATE from J&C (Jaeger & Co.) Marktredwitz, Bavaria, Hand Painted YELLOW ROSES & GREEN LEAVES with Vertical Panels filled w/ORANGE LUSTER, dated 1912 by ARTIST "E" DESCRIPTION: The bowl is painted by a talented artist to be viewed from all sides. The artist (E) used a Impressionist style of painting to beautifully portray the yellow roses and dated his artwork 1912. The vertical panels are filled with orange luster with varying intensity of orange color. This is on the Louise mold which has an embossed and scalloped underplate, a down turned spout cover on the lid and a ribbon handle, and a forked handle on the embossed and scalloped pitcher. The gold trim is wide and bold. CONDITION: The condition of this small decorative lidded syrup with underplate is superb. We do not think the orange luster is worn, but it is applied unevenly in some spots which adds to its intrigue. (The adjacent gold is not worn.) We can find no defects or damage. There is no rubbing to the paint. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches, crazing or hairlines. The gold trim around the scalloped rim appears perfect as does the gold on the handles and panels. It is clean on the interior. DIMENSIONS: The underplate has a diameter of 6 7/8" and a height of 7/8". This syrup has widest dimensions of 3 3/4" and is 4 5/8" from the handle to the spout. The syrup height with the lid is 4 1/4". HISTORY/MARKS: Jaeger, Thomas & Co. was founded in 1898 in Marktredwitz, Bavaria, Germany. In 1902 Fritz Thomas left the company to found Polzellanfabrik Markt Redwitz Thomas and Ens which operated from 1903-1908. Jaeger & Co. continued in business until 1979 until they were sold to an Italian Company, Sebring in Casier, Italy. The name was changed to Jaeger Porcellan GMBH and they continued in business. The mark, J&C (Jaeger & Co.), on this piece is documented in Robert E. Rontgen’s Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present as mark #405 which was used in the 1902-1908 time period. It is also dated 1912 by the artist, "E".
