Description: You are purchasing this unique JAX OF MAINE RARE WITCH JACK IN THE BOX HALLOWEEN FOLK ART 1985 HANDMADE VINTAGE IN GOOD PREOWNED CONDITION. Signed on bottom with spring JAX signature along with a stamp that reads "NOT SUITABLE FOR UNSUPERVISED CHILDREN UNDER FIVE". There is a signed tag on the back of the witch under the clothing indicating this was made in 1985. Handmade. Handcrafted. Handpainted folk art from Lincolnville Maine. These limited edition collectible toys were made in Maine and then sold to high end stores. No longer made each character was designed and hand sewn then placed in the box and signed - they function on a large spring. No winding. Witch is carefully pushed down and top of box closed. It stays secure till you hold box in your hands and push on front panel with your thumbs and it pops open. Measures approximately 12" tall when out of box. Box dimensions when closed are 4.25" length X 4.25" width X 4.5" height. Weighs just over 1 pound. Wooden box. Stuffed oilcloth witch with distinctive nose and chin and warts, gray yarn hair, ruffled witch hat, oilcloth hands, cotton outfit all black. Just wonderful and unique. Very good preowned condition. As received from estate. Marked on the bottom slight fade to spring logo- tag on back of witch says 1985. Movement of this collectible works well. On one side the seam of the box has separated a bit but an easy fix. Box has some age, scuffs and scratches but no major damage. Hinge on top works well. Witch secure by a large spring on the inside. I carefully depressed her straight down and closed top and it stays hinged. I picked up the box and pressured front panel with my thumbs only and the witch easily pops out. Some dust and age to clothing , some splitting of the oilskin at the tip of the nose. Hands intact. Left hand holds only a partial piece of the recipe for a witches brew. Right hand holds nothing. I saw a later version that showed a wooden spoon in the right hand but none with this witch or inside box. Some age stains on hands and head. The tattered edges of hat and clothing give this witch real effect. The hair is some kind of yarn in gray. Because she sits on a large spring she does have some motion like a nodder when disturbed. Rare and unique for any collection or the serious Halloween decorator or the lover of witches. Ships not compressed in its box .
