Description: Fine Tosa school painted scroll by Tosa Mitsuzane (1780-1852). Mitsuzane was one of the important painters of Tosa school in late Edo period. Tosa school was established in 15th century by Tosa Mitsunobu and became popular in Imperial court and aristocratic circles. Tosa painters continued to be favorites of Imperial court , Shoguns and upper aristocracy thru whole Edo period. Mitsuzane was one of the later important painters of this illustrious art school. Painting depicts Gunpai , Samurai commander signal fan.Painting could be related to description of treasured objects in Shogun treasury and was commisioned to document this item in details.
