Description: JAPANESE PRE-MEIJI COIN DISPLAY PIECE - RYU-KYU TSU-HO - 100 MON - 1861 - RYUKYU TSUHO For sale is an oblong Japanese coin display piece suitable for your desk, mantle, or bookcase. It's really large (14" by 9"), made of metal, and weighs over 5 pounds. It is modeled after a real pre-Meiji coin called Ryu-Kyu Tsu-Ho or "Current Treasure of Ryukyu", which was slightly smaller than 2" by 1-1/4". This coin had a value one hundred mon. It was a provincial issue made at Tempozan, Kagoshima in the first year of Bunkyu (1861). See pg. 162, "Coins of Japan" by Neil Gordon Monroe or page 75, "Early Japanese Coins" by David Hartill. The coin display piece is labeled on the reverse with a sticker that says "Made in Japan". Most likely it was made in the 1950's as a souvenir for visitors to Japan. The stand visible in photo is included with the coin display piece. Shipping is by Priority Mail because of weight and size. Comments or questions are welcomed.
