After he hung up gloves for good because of detached retina in 1971, Eiji felt lost after the unfortunate accident. He started drinking and hung out at the local bar day and night. The once bread winner is no longer able to support the family financially. All of the sudden, the responsibility of making money for the household of him and kids fell on his wife's shoulder. His only daughter became increasingly angry, resentful and embarrassed at his useless father. Eiji's wife eventually left him and the kids due to the harsh lifestyle she had to endure.
