Description: This banknote, officially a “Foreign Denomination Military Certificate,” was issued by Japanese forces soon after they invaded New Britain on January 23, 1942, and New Guinea on March 8, 1942, and was declared the sole legal tender in the British South Pacific territories or "Oceania" (Gilbert Islands, New Britain, New Guinea, and Solomon Islands) on March 14, 1943. The 1/2 Schilling banknote bears the imprint of the Greater Japan Imperial Government in Japanese text at lower center front. It has series letters in red starting with the letter O. This currency is often referred to as “JIM” for Japanese Invasion Money.In acceptable condition. Banknote is taped at an angle across the front. Edges show wear due to age and handling.
