Description: Japanese Floral Arrangement Wood Block Prints on Rice Paper The Ikenobo School is the oldest and largest school of ikebana, the Japanese art of floral design. It was founded in the 15th century by the Buddhist monk Senno. The school is based at the Rokkaku-do temple in Kyoto. The name is derived from a pond where Prince Shotoku was bathing. The custom of placing flowers on the altar began when Buddhism was introduced to Japan by way of emissaires to China in about 538 AD In Japan people tried to give deeper meaning to the thoughts accompanying flower arranging in other words, they wished to arrange flowers (tateru, to arrange stems in an upright or standing manner), rather than casually placing them in a vase. The prints are 9 1/2" x 5 1/4" .These woodblock prints are on rice paper and are delicately colored and quite lovely. All our prints are guaranteed to be original. We offer combined shipping on all our prints.
