This vintage chromolithograph was printed in Japan in 1905. This is a unique chance to acquire a historical document and visual depiction that is also housed at the Library of Congress and offers a rare glimpse into the world of the brutal Japan-Russo war, fought over 100 years ago. The Russo-Japan war was won by Japan and helped solidify their domination over Korea and Manchuria. The victory of Japan over Russia in this war was the first time in modern history that an Asian power conquered a Western power. Japan rose in power and world stature, post Russo-Japan war. Their world wide economic ambitions grew as well. The repository at the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs division in Washington D.C. has a few of these Chromolithographs depicting different battles of the Japan-Russo war in their collection. This historical document is a rarity and a highly detailed depiction of an oft forgotten war that had disastrous long term ramifications. Chromolithograph depicts "A View of Port Arthur Fort Destroyed by our Fleet." Port Arthur, Manchuria was the primary Russian stronghold and naval base in the 1904-05 war. It was bombarded repeatedly and under siege for the duration of the war. In January 1905 the Russians eventually surrendered and turned over the fort to the Japanese. The battle and later siege of Port Arthur was the bloodiest and most deadly of the Russo-Japan war. American President Theodore Roosevelt would later receive the Nobel Peace prize for his diplomatic work in helping secure the Treaty of Portsmouth, resulting in the end of the Russo-Japanese war.
