According to the inscription made by Juillerat he painted this wonderful watercolor as a copy after the well known English watercolor artist Thomas Shotter Boys (1803-1874), who was also an assistant of Bonnington in Paris. The influence of the latter can be easily seen in this watercolor! Jacques Henri Juillerat (1777- Muenster by Bern - 1860 Bern) received his first drawing lessons in the Monastery Bellelay, studied then in Neunburg, worked in Basel where his teachers were P. Birmann and M. Wocher. Finally he came to Zurich and became a pupil of J. H. Wuest who gave him lessons in oil painting. He came back to Basel, was active there as an illustrator, in 1810 became a drawing teacher at the college in Delsberg (Delemont). In 1820 he settled in Bern and 1823 became an art teacher at the Berner Academy of Fine arts. From 1828 to 1855 he lived in Italy. He participated regularly of the Swiss and Italian exhibitions.
