JACK BENNY PROGRAM TV Series Script, Director Billy Wilder, 1961 Episode

Description: This is a first-generation COPY of a script from THE JACK BENNY PROGRAM TV series (not a transcript or Photoshop recreation). The original was owned by Assistant Director Maury Thompson and he wrote notes throughout the pages. A very nice copy is being offered here. The 1961 script is from the memorable episode titled “Jack Goes Back Into Pictures.” In the episode, Jack Benny's excited because he's going to make his first film in many years, directed by Billy Wilder. It's supposed to be a secret yet he calls Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons right away, and soon even the mailman and a house painter know. However, when Wilder arrives he's not too keen on the movie project. This was the only time that famed movie director Billy Wilder (The Apartment, The Odd Couple, Some Like It Hot) played himself in a scripted TV show. He jokingly acknowledges this when he leaves, saying, "I'd better stick to directing." The episode was directed by Fred De Cordiva. He was a longtime friend/producer of Benny’s and executive produced Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show for decades. The script's cover has been reproduced in color and a sheet of acetate is included to keep it looking pristine (to be honest, this copy looks better than the original). The script pages are printed on one side. Great care has been taken to make this a piece that a TV collector will be proud to own and display.
