Description: Minnesota and Its Resources to Which Are Added Camp-Fire Sketches or Notes of a Trip from St. Paul to Pembina and Selkirk Settlement on the Red River of the North Author: BOND, J. Wesley Title: Minnesota and Its Resources to Which Are Added Camp-Fire Sketches or Notes of a Trip from St. Paul to Pembina and Selkirk Settlement on the Red River of the North Publication: Chicago: Keen & Lee, 1856 Description: Hardcover. Small 8vo. Red blind-embossed cloth with gilt spine. 412pp. Frontispiece, engraved title page, 3 full-page plates, foldout color map, front endpaper text. Good plus. Contemporary nonauthorial gift inscription on inner flyleaf; binding slightly edgeworn and spine rather faded and rubbed, extending slightly onto front board, but internally bright and tight. Tight and sturdy third printing of this state survey first published by Redfield in 1853 -- this reissue likely occasioned by the Minnesota Territory's pending statehood, which came to the fore in 1856 and was finalized in 1858. Handsome sepia-tone frontispiece titled "St. Paul" and engraved title page image titled "Falls of St. Anthony." Large (17ΒΌ" X 13 3/4") foldout map tipped to rear pastedown is bright and lovely, with no fold separations or weaknesses and just mild age toning; titled "Map of Minnesota Territory," it was published by Charles DeSilver of Philadelphia in 1856. The binding may be drab, but the interior is handsome. SABIN 6284.
