Description: This is a new-without-tags, unworn but tried on a couple of times and stored J. Peterman 100% cotton velvet or velveteen blazer in a women's regular size 20. Please note re size: This is labeled a size 20 but it runs small through the chest and waist (more like a 16 - 18 or XL) so please be careful to check the measurements in the "Measurements" section below to make sure the fit will work for you-I am not able to exchange it the way a store could. The jacket has an eye-catching (if not eye-popping) bright multicolor paisley print against a black background; the paisley print is mainly an orange-red with numerous other hues such as brown, lavender, light green, light blue, tan and yellow. The style is somewhat fitted and the cotton fabric has no spandex in it. Cotton velvet or velveteen is very hard to find these days-velvet is almost always made from polyester or rayon-silk, but cotton is a far more durable and more lustrous fiber for velvet-it holds the nap much better and longer, while other fabrics get crushed or worn down. The overall style is retro/vintage, recalling the psychedelic 1970s in its colors, fabric texture and print, with a less era-defined general vintage look in the overall design. The jacket buttons up the front with four fancy, vintage-look buttons (they look like some from my mom's button collection from the '60s or '70s), which are black plastic with a brass-tone metal or metallic bead at their centers; two smaller versions of these buttons decorate the cuffs, and these cuff buttons are functional-the cuffs are divided at the ends and the buttons can be unfastened if the wearer wishes to. The front buttons are closely spaced and near the bottom hem, which accentuates the flattering cutaway styling of the hem at the center front. The blazer has medium-width notched lapels in the same fabric as the body. which turns into a narrow fold-over collar in back. There are two patch pockets in front, accentuated with a thin black rayon-silk velvet piping across their tops-these pockets again have a slight '70s flair. The bottom hem is straight in the back. The length of the jacket is on the shorter side of medium-length-I would call is short-medium, probably falling to about mid-hip depending on the wearer's height and body type. The garment is fully lined in black acetate which sets off the bright multi-color outer fabric. CARE/CONDITION: The fabric content is as follows: The outer velvet or velveteen fabric is 100% cotton; the piping on the pockets is 82% rayon and 18% silk; and the lining is 100% acetate. The manufacturer's label recommends dry cleaning only. As noted above, this blazer has not been worn yet; it has been tried on and stored for a time, mainly on a hanger, in the closet in a non-smoking household. The garment does run smaller than the usual fit for a J. Peterman women's 20 and definitely smaller than this size in other brands. I really love the jacket but for me it is too snug in the shoulders so I am giving up now, reluctantly, and listing it so it can find another appreciative home. There are no holes, tears, spots, stains or other condition issues that I can find with this rather fabulous jacket; the only noteworthy issue is the sizing, so please see the Measurements section directly below: MEASUREMENTS/FIT: As noted above, this blazer runs small for its stated size, which is women's regular size 20; the style is somewhat fitted and there is no spandex in the fabric, nor any other stretch element. The chest or bust is 48" around (24" on each side), as measured from armpit to armpit across the back with the fabric taut and the buttons fastened; this is small for its size, closer to a usual measurement for a size 16 - 18 or XL; the waist level is around 44" around (22" each side), measured at the level of the second button with the buttons fastened; again, this is small for its size and closer to an XL or 16 - 18 in my experience; the bottom hem is more true to size, at 56" around (28" each side), measured across the very bottom of the jacket from side seam to side seam with the fabric taut and the buttons fastened; and the length is variable: 28" long in back, measured from the top of one shoulder to the end of the bottom hem on one side, or 26" at its longest point in front, at the side seams-the back has a straight seam and is longer, while the front has a cutaway styling in the center underneath the button placket, where the length is shortest, lengthening at the sides but still a but shorter than the back. SHIPPING NOTE: I cringe every time I have to write down what the post office charges, but blazers/jackets are fairly heavy and often bulky so the medium flat rate USPS Priority box is the best I can do for cost-the stated shipping amount below is exactly what USPS charges, unfortunately.
